Introducing Hosted Checkout
Major Upgrade
This feature is currently being released to sandbox marketplaces. Expected production announcement: release 757 on November 4, 2026. For enterprise marketplaces, the feature is typically not enabled by default at GA; an approximately eight-week testing and communication window follows. Dates may change based on validation results.
📝 Note: This is a Major Upgrade. For most marketplaces, Hosted Checkout is expected to be publicly available with release 757 on November 4, 2026. For certain marketplaces, the feature is typically not enabled by default at GA. An approximately eight-week window follows for testing and customer communication. If you do not see this feature, work with your AppDirect technical representative to understand testing and release timelines.
Hosted Checkout (V2) lets partners and merchants that run a headless or custom storefront use AppDirect for cart, billing, and payment without requiring buyers to sign in to the marketplace first, and without copying their full product catalog into the AppDirect storefront.
How it works
- The partner server authenticates with OAuth 2.0 client credentials and creates a Hosted Checkout session.
- AppDirect returns a
hostedCheckoutUrlfor that session. - The buyer is redirected to the AppDirect-hosted checkout page to enter billing and payment details.
- When checkout finishes or is abandoned, the buyer returns to the merchant’s configured HTTPS
returnUrl.
Sessions are created from a secure server, not from the browser, and support both new buyers (guest flow with automatic user and company creation) and existing buyers (session tied to stored user and company identifiers). You can include published catalog products by pricing plan ID from the published product version, keeping discovery and cart UX on the partner storefront while AppDirect handles billing, payment, tax and discount calculation, and downstream provisioning.
Prerequisites
Ensure that the following prerequisites are in place:
- Checkout V2 is enabled on the marketplace.
- An OAuth 2.0 client with the partner scope required to create Hosted Checkout sessions.
- An HTTPS return URL for redirects after checkout.
- Published catalog products that use active pricing plans from the published product version, when you pass catalog items into the session.
For help with these prerequisites, contact your AppDirect technical representative.
